Whether you’re a Sunday stroller or a keen hiker, walkers are spoilt for choice in the area surrounding River Valley Holiday Park. Set out on foot and you are within easy reach of stunning beaches, sub-tropical gardens and the local pub.
We offer visitors directions for all sorts of circular walks to the coast and through the countryside. You don’t need a map to head off along the Pentewan Valley Trail that runs adjacent to the site – trace this well-marked path along the river and it’s an easy jaunt to beach at Pentewan (2.5miles), The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the fishing village of Mevagissey. Also just footsteps from your tent or caravan is the enchanting Kingwood, where you can wend through 140 acres of woodland that climbs the valley-side.
If you like decent pub grub and local ales to reward your exertions, it’s only 15 minutes’ walk from River Valley to the local, traditional Polgooth Inn. Or for a longer walk follow the Pentewan Valley Trail from the caravan park and it’s about an hour’s stroll to Charlestown, where you can choose from pub food in the Harbourside Inn, a light bite in Charlie’s coffee shop or upmarket dining in Wreckers seafood restaurant.
Being so close to the coast at River Valley, the South West Coast Path is also at your fingertips. Pack a picnic and amble to the beautiful cove of Porthpean, or explore Daphne du Maurier’s Cornwall from the waterside paths around Fowey.
While River Valley Holiday Park is perfectly situated to for walkers to get away from it all, it is also just a short walk from the nearest town of St Austell.
