EATING AND DRINKING

From decent pub grub to fine dining, you can sample a taste of Cornwall’s freshest, local produce in a range of pubs and restaurants within easy reach of River Valley Caravan Park. And if you want to chill out in your caravan or whip up a campfire feast, get your hands on the just-picked veg, locally reared meats and fresh seafood from nearby farm shops.

Our local is The Polgooth Inn (T: 01726 74089), a traditional pub serving excellent pub food just 15 minutes’ from River Valley. Other cosy inns offering local ales and hearty fare just a walk (or short drive away) include the Ship Inn (T: 01726 842855) in Pentewan (about 40 minutes’ walk), and the Rashleigh Arms (T: 01726 73635) and the Harbourside Inn (T: 01726 67955) in Charlestown (about an hour’s walk).

For the best Cornish locally-reared meats and fresh fish there’s the Kingswood Restaurant (T: 01726 63780) that borders the woodland close to River Valley. And if it’s Cornwall’s just-landed seafood that you’re after, try Wreckers in Charlestown (T: 01726 879053) for a posh night out, or Sam’s in Fowey (T: 01726 832273) for fish and chips in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Of course these days Cornwall is synonymous with the big names of Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein, and to get taste of Stein’s seafood it’s only 45 minutes to Padstow, and about the same to Oliver’s Fifteen overlooking Watergate Bay.
